She has borderline under-active thyroid. Yesterday her GP apologised and told her she shouldn't have been given these tablets at all.
My question is, does she need to wean herself off them or would there be any side effects if she just stopped taking them? She was suffering from nervous tension whilst on them.
Hi Dr. Frank, she said she was quite shocked at the doctor telling her she shouldn't have been given the tablets in the first place that she forgets what else was said to her other than to make an appointment for a check-up in January. Most of my aunts (her sisters) have an under-active thyroid and are on tablets, so I'm surprised she was taken off.

I take several medications, and I don't know if I am taking them properly. First of all, I'm on Levothyroxine 150 mcg and Metoporpolol 50 mg for high b/p and hypothyroid. I am also supposed to take Feurosedmide 40 mg and a potassium supplement. I know to take the first two when I get up each morning on an empty stomach. When should I take the water pill (feurosemide) and the potassium supplement in order to get the most benefit (and not lose the benefits from the thyroid and bp meds)? Any help is appreciated, I forgot to ask the doc how I should take them. :-)

I started taking Levothyroxine 50 mcg 10 days ago. How soon does your body regulate to the hormone? Is my body fully regulated yet or does it take a certain amount of time?
For a TSH/T4 level of 5.56, would 50 mcg be enough? Is anyone else on Levothyroxine? lol Wanna compare doses?
I just want to be sure I'm on a high enough dose to be in the middle of the normal range again. My levels won't be checked again for a month and a half...

As of today it has been 6.5 weeks since I've been diagnosed with Hypothyroid.I've been on 50mg of Levothyroxine and have felt fine until this week.Prior to being diagnosed I had no symptoms of Hypothyroid other than difficulty losing weight. Now I've been experiencing extreme fatigue, dizziness and I've gained 3 pounds in just one week.Could this be a sign of too many hormones? I'm really depressed, because I'm trying to lose weight. It just feels like going on hormones screwed me up in the long run. What do you guys think?

I found out I had hypothyroidism in August 2007. I am on 50 mcg of levothyroxine...I am trying to loose 15-20 lbs and just can't seem to do it. I have never had any weight problems till June of 2007. I am now 22 and I feel like I should be able to loose the weight with diet and exercise but it isn't happening. My doctor says my levels for my thyroid are fine. My hair is also continuing to fall out slowly and is very coarse. Which is also a problem that I have never had? Can anyone help or suggest anything that would help?

I was here till 3 months back...Used to ask and answer questions abt TTC....Wanted to tell u all ladies here who r TTCing, that pls dont lose ur hopes,,,and keep trying and dont hesitate to go to a fertility specialist if u think either of u or ur husband has any problem...I am actually 28 y/o TTC since Jun'05 with pcos &hypothyroid...My earlier Dr put me on levothyroxine and metformin 2000mg..Tried clomid 50mg,100mg and 100mg for 3 consecutive months.,..Ovulated on all of them but didnt result in pregnancy...After moving out to a different State, I searched and found a wonderful RE who ran thru some tests on me and my DH. Also had HSG in july'08 which was normal and this my new RE had Saline sonogram(to see any polyps, endo,,or scar tissues) done on me in Sep '08 which also came back normal. Later we found out that my DH's sperm count and motility were excellent except his morphology which came at very low thru krugers strict morphology category...RE and her staff told us to go directly to IVF since we had no other choice...Since we couldnt even afford for it, i asked for injectibles with IUI's to see if it clicks....Had my 1st injectibles, ovidrel trigger and 1st IUI's in oct'08...Amazingly and fortunately, we got pregnant on this combo and now i am 6 weeks pregnant...This coming wednesday, we will hear our baby's heartbeat...
I know how hard and frustrating it is when TTC with no result...Been there, done that....Wanted to give some encouragement to alll ladies here that not to lose hopes and i definitely won't say "Relax, it will happen when u deserve"...But instead research on ur own body, know where's going wrong,,search for a RE(not the regular gyno,,coz' they r not specialists in helping us get pregnant..RE is the only one who can do that), talk to her/him abt everything, believe/trust ur DR and on top of all pray god and be positive, think positive and say positive that this cycle will do wonders for u...
Wishing u all the wonderful ladies a very good luck in getting BFP's at the earliest..
P.S: sorry for writing a big post, but wanted to give u all some hopes and encouragement.

I'm 18 yrs old,and 50 pounds overweight.I went to the doctors a few weeks ago due to missed periods (3).The doctor did and ultra sound and found cysts on both ovaries. She didn't say much about it,just that she would put me on Provera and Birth control to start my periods.I asked for a blood test also, because my grandmother and aunt both have thyroid problems. She called me 5 days later and told me I did infact have Hypothyroidism and prescribed me 50mcg of Levothyroxine (Synthroid).Although I don't have any symptoms of hypothyroid, just the fact that I'm overweight.I just have a gut feeling that I don't need this medication.I just stopped taking Provera 3 days ago and still have no period.I started Levothyroxine the yesterday and feel completely normal on it.I'm suppose to start my birth control also. But I'm nervous about it,the more I read about this online the more I think my doctor is a moron.I don't know why I have cysts, she didn't run any tests. She just prescribes me medications even though they probably shouldn't be taken together.Does anyone have experience with this kind of stuff? My insurance doesn't cover any other clinics, and I can't really afford to see any other doctors. What should I do? :(
